Questions about our Future!! January 2010
Introduction.
For many years there has been a formal structure for Churches of different traditions to meet together and either plan and organise events or regular activities that are of service to the community or give witness to ‘being one in Christ.’ Across the whole of Bath we would include: Open Christmas, The Cross Walks and Christian Aid as being examples of such service and witness. There are also six zones in Bath, representatives of churches within a defined geographical area meeting together on a regular basis. These meetings will arrange opportunities for congregations to meet and share their differences in worship style and Church life. Such activities as lent discussions groups, social events and joint acts of worship are planned in most of the zones. Frequently, account is taken of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity in January, and One World Week in October.
At its AGM in May 2009 questions were asked about the future purpose and the role of Churches Together in Bath, and to seek confirmation from all the Churches that CTB is important and serves both Churches and Christians in a positive and progressive way. Is it the 21stC way of expressing purpose and progression that we’re searching for? CTB regularly reviews its activities. This is one of those moments.
We would appreciate your help, and hope that each CTB meeting as well as the many meetings of church leaders either at a denominational level or local inter denominational level (e.g. Deanery, District and Circuit meetings) will find some time to discuss the following questions.
1) How would you describe the relevance of your ecumenical activities in relation to working together in Christ, ecumenism, and inter church relationships?
2) Does your Church often aspire to new ecumenical activities or events that are not possible to deliver because of the lack of resources – either human or material? What are those aspirations?
3) What can the CTB Executive do to help you to either fulfil your aspirations or assist with the development of the relationship between Churches?
4) Have you any other practical suggestions to make about the local ecumenical process?
Thank You
